The Registered Respiratory Therapist must be reliable, able to work independently, be self-motivated and is responsible for providing all modalities of direct patient respiratory care as outlined in the Respiratory Therapy Policy and Procedure Manual and performing job duties in accordance with mission, vision, and values of C.W. Young Veterans' Hospital. Duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Therapeutic and diagnostic procedures with the use of medical gases and administration devices, humidification and aerosols. Ensures that the Pulmonary Function laboratory meets all JCAHO and regulatory guidelines. Calibrates Body Plethysmograph and PFT systems to perform a Full Set of Pulmonary Function Tests. Ensures that the system passed calibrations. Set-up the Viaysis Comprehensive Pulmonary Lab and Sensormedics VMax Plethysmograph systems to perform a full complement of Pulmonary Function Tests. Perform a complete set of Pulmonary Function Tests on patients; these tests include:
Spirometry Before and After Bronchodilator, Lung Volume Determinations, Diffusing Capacity Determination, Slow Vital Capacity measurement, Maximum Voluntary Ventilation, and measurement of Airway Resistance and Conductance. Performs Methacholine Challenge Tests (pharmacological induced asthma testing) and work with ordering physician to coordinate date of testing. Make data available for physician interpretation. Performs Pulmonary Exercise Stress Testing and exercise induced asthma testing. Completes data analysis post exercise. Perform routine maintenance on Arterial Blood gas analyzer. Ensure that automatic calibration of Arterial Blood Gas equipment has been performed and that QA measurements on this instrument are acceptable as per laboratory policy. Draws Arterial Blood Gases to determine pH, pCO2, pO2. Provides supplemental oxygen (bag-mask ventilation, non-rebreather mask, venti-mask, simple mask, nasal cannula) when required in the PFT laboratory. Completes Home Oxygen Evaluations Perform Respiratory Therapy procedures and demonstrates proficiency in the use of Oxygen concentrators, Oxygen conserving devices and pulse oximeters. Perform nebulizer and MDI medication administration. Performs routine electrocardiograms. Instruct patients on the proper use of various types of MDI medication. Identify operating supplies for the Plethysmograph and Pulmonary Function procedures and submit list to supervisor for ordering of these supplies. Patient setup, calibration and acquisition performance verification of BIPAP and CPAP devices. Patient set up, calibration and download of Home Sleep Studies and overnight oximeters Work Schedule:

Has a certificate as an RRT from the NBRC (National Board for Respiratory Care) and a registry number, or a certificate from another body which the NBRC recognizes as its credentialing equivalent. This includes registration based on either:
(1) Having fulfilled the requirements and passed the registry examination administered by the NBRC since 1983, or (2) Having fulfilled the requirements and passed the registry examination for a registered inhalation or respiratory therapist administered by the (1) National Board for Respiratory Therapy from July 1974 through 1982 or (2) American Registry of Inhalation Therapists from 1961 through June1974. English Language Proficiency. RRTs appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). Preferred

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Qualifying experience at this level is work which includes duties such as:
administering assisted and controlled ventilation to patients with tracheotomies and other complex medical problems requiring frequent adjustments in ventilator parameters; administering and monitoring advanced ventilator techniques such as positive end expiratory pressure and continuous positive airway pressure; developing plans for weaning patients from ventilators; assessing the respiratory status of patients using data acquired through physical observation and clinical analysis of blood gas data, chest x-rays, and electrocardiogram to determine the effectiveness of therapy being administered and to make recommendations to physicians regarding changes in treatment; performing the most difficult respiratory therapy procedures to maintain ventilation, including endotracheal intubation, tracheal lavage, and tracheotomy care; and providing in-service training to others in various specialized areas of respiratory care. (2) Demonstrated knowledge and ability needed to perform complex respiratory procedures with minimal supervision. Is able to participate with physicians and nurses and other staff in planning respiratory treatment, with great reliance on the individual's knowledge of the equipment. (3) Demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide emergency or critical respiratory care; service as a shift leader or supervisor or sole responsible respiratory therapist on a shift; and to plan and conduct training sessions with respiratory therapy students, hospital staff, patients, and family members. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
