Typical duties include but are not limited to:
Applying appropriate cleaning solutions to various types of floors (linoleum, wood, or marble), walls, and ceilings to clean and maintain such surfaces. Perform daily cleaning tasks, such as, dust mopping, damp mopping, cleaning patient exam areas, patient rooms, and restrooms to include urinals, commodes, sinks, floors etc., refilling dispensers and cleaning offices of all types. Performing routine maintenance on cleaning equipment such as tightening nuts and bolts and/or greasing/oiling fittings and wheels. Pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying or moving cleaning equipment around and Standing/walking for several hours or more at a time. Select and use special cleaning agents and germicidal solutions to remove stains from a variety of surfaces to provide a safe Medical Center environment. Working rapidly and accurately under the pressure of deadlines. Use of various cleaning agents/chemicals and exposure to bio hazardous items/substances. Operate power cleaning equipment such as; automatic scrubbing machines, buffers, carpet cleaning machines, Industrial vacuums, etc. Empty trash and waste baskets, replacing liners. Transportation of general refuse, regulated medical waste, and recycling to a central collection area following established procedures for waste management. Collect, transport, and properly dispose of various types of general and medical waste materiel including Sharps container. Perform operator maintenance and ensure security of equipment placed in their care. This task may include; cleaning of equipment, replacement of filters brushes and recharging of batteries, etc. Responsible for having a familiarity of the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Responsible for sweeping or using back pack blowers on parking lot, court yards building entrances and may work alone of with other housekeepers. Cleaning tasks outside the normal scope of work such as trash removal from the outside entry ways and cleaning sidewalks. Work Schedule:

Physical Requirements:
Moderate to heavy physical effort in accomplishing the duties of this position. Require constant physical demands such as:
walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing, lifting, carrying, kneeling and climbing. Require pulling, reaching over and lifting supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Stand and walk consistently, perform light to moderate bending and stooping, climb ladders to clean overhead equipment and furnishings, and operate heavy duty commercial cleaning equipment that requires eye, hand and body coordination. Working Conditions:
This position may be assigned holidays, irregular tours including weekends as necessary in support of Veteran Centered Care. This position will on occasion be asked to work extended hours for coverage as necessary in support of Veteran Centered Care. Normally works in a controlled environment with regulated heat, light and ventilation. Exposed to organic materials such as blood, infectious organisms and disagreeable odors. Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and/or safety gear. Possibly exposed to contagions from the handling of contaminated and regulated medical waste. Potential exists for sharps exposure in waste stream. Subject to cuts, scrapes, bumps, bruises, slips, falls and other injuries, and to disagreeable odors in the performance of required duties. Care Personnel (HCP) are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations where patients receive care or who come into contact with VA patients as part of their duties. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements before actual hire date:
Ability to do work of Housekeeping Aid without more than normal supervision. (Screen Out); Ability to operate power cleaning equipment, vacuums, carpet cleaning machines and buffers, etc.; Ability to understand various types of instructions relating to Housekeeping duties and aseptic techniques as a Housekeeping Aid worker; Ability to operate with dexterity and safety. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
